Ailís Playlist: The Bone Witch of the Wood in Lay to Rest

Lay to Rest stars Ailís, a curious witch who soothes and sets free the ailing spirits of her world. She is a chosen of the Bonemother, a strange goddess of nature, life, and death. While Ligrog’s story in To Forge Anew is totally new, Ailís’ story in Lay to Rest is more of a continuation- it takes place in her original TTRPG world, Viningvale, and even has appearances from some of her old adventuring pals! In order to let you all get to know Ailís like I do, I thought I’d go old school and share her character playlist!

“Cure for Me” – AURORA

This was the song that started Ailís’ journey: she’s weird. She’s unusual. And she doesn’t care at all what you think of that. Unconventional in every way, Ailís talks to ghosts, channels Wild Magic from her land, and has Major Audacity Energy to step to literally anyone- she’s gutsed up to cult leaders, kings and demigods alike!

“Venus Fly Trap” – Marina

“Why be a wallflower, when you can be a venus fly trap?” Another ode to being yourself, “Venus Fly Trap” is a power anthem for taking your power and owning it. “I did it my way, baby- nothin’ in this world could change me.”

“Heathens” – AURORA

AURORA obviously channels a lot of the feral, powerful energy our Bone Witch exudes. Ailís is unafraid of worshipping her goddess, the Bonemother, even if no one else in the realm gets it.

“Blossom” – Kerli

This gorgeous song makes a comeback! For those who have been around since Diamond Marked, this song was also on Hazel Leigh MacTire’s playlist. Ailís venerates all things natural, including those enveloped in death- she literally had to learn to blossom with the people she was with.

“Electric Feel” – MGMT

“She got the power in her hand to shock you like you won’t believe.” That’s it. That’s the line. A powerful Wild Magic Sorcerer, she specializes in worldly, natural magick- there’s a hell of a lot of lightning in her arsenal.

“Cabin in the Woods” – Courtney Jean

This song is dedicated to Ailís’ home, her cottage deep in the wood. It might also hint to what happens in the story of Lay to Rest. *badly-done winky face*

Bonus Songs

“W.I.T.C.H.” – Devon Cole

Who doesn’t love this catchy ass song about being a BAMF of a witch?! Ailís isn’t exactly a flirty gal, though, so it’s relegated to the “catchy but not accurate” section.

“Savage Daughter” – Wyndreth Berginsdottir

Originally by Wyndreth Berginsdottir and recently made re-famous by Sarah Hester Ross, Savage Daughter is a powerful song about being unafraid of your roots. Once again, though, it doesn’t paint a perfect story; sure, Ailís is her mother’s savage daughter, but her mother is not like her. She was a nomad who happened to cross the wood that Ailís met her goddess in, and Ailís is drastically different from her familial line. The only mother’s savage daughter that Ailís IS is that of the Bonemother.

You’ll get to know Ailís a bit more in the coming days, including her original D&D character sheet! Lay to Rest comes out August 8th, and is available for pre-order wherever you buy e-books. ❣️
